From Biotechnology Grad to Fungal Innovators
Prime Mushrooms Tanzania is a biotechnology-based startup company the first of its kind in Tanzania that deals with commercial mushroom production for food and medicinal purposes.
In 2023 after graduating with degrees in biotechnology, Martin, Thomas, Nickson and Fredrich teamed up to tackle challenges of nutritious food and health. It was the humble mushroom that sparked their imagination! a versatile organism with potential to transform food systems and medicine. They envisioned not only cultivating mushrooms for consumption but also unlocking their untapped potential through research and development.
However, bringing their idea to life required expertise and guidance. That’s when Prof. Wilkinson a plant pathologist from the University of Illinois joined the mission. What began as a simple idea quickly transformed into Prime Mushrooms, a mission-driven company committed to redefine the future of food and wellness by producing high-quality mushrooms.

“Prime Smart Technology” by Prime Mushrooms Tanzania
Prime Smart Technology is an innovative solution for producing high-quality mushrooms indoors using a highly controlled system that ensure consistent production, independent of external weather conditions. Designed by Prime Mushrooms Tanzania, this eco-friendly approach addresses climate challenges like water scarcity, and droughts while offering sustainable food solutions for low-income communities.
The innovation combines scientific knowledge, designed equipment and skilled personnel for efficient production. The indoor facility regulates temperature, humidity, and air quality. This ensures sustainable, year-round production of mushrooms climate insensitive. PST design uses basic equipment thus reducing cost and operational maintenance.
