From Biotechnology Grad to Fungal Innovators.

In 2023, shortly after graduating with degrees in biotechnology at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Thomas approached Martin to discuss what they could do with their skills in the field. Martin introduced the idea of mushroom cultivation, highlighting its vast potential for food and health. Intrigued, Thomas embraced the vision, and together they shared the idea with their colleagues Nickson and Fredrich who were equally inspired to join.

The four envisioned not only cultivating mushrooms for consumption but also exploring their untapped potential through research and development, aiming to transform both food systems and medicine.

To strengthen their journey, they sought guidance and were joined by Prof. Hank Wilkinson, an emeritus Professor from the University of Illinois. With his mentorship, the idea took shape and evolved into Prime Mushrooms-a mission-driven company committed to redefine the future of food and wellness by producing high-quality mushroom products.

"Fungal biotechnolgy"

There are many mushroom cultivators in Tanzania, but for us, mushrooms cultivation goes beyond simply growing mushrooms. It is about improving diets and enhancing the health of consumers by producing fresh, organic and nutrient -dense food.

We apply biotechnology to understand how mushrooms grow in their natural environment, and then replicate these conditions within our facility. Our growing facility have climate control systems that regulate temperature, humidity, airflow and light. This level of precision allows us to consistently produce high-quality mushrooms throughout the year, without being affected by seasonal changes.
